Work is underway on a new £558 million hospital in Birmingham, it has been announced.
A Carillion joint venture (JV), The Hospital Company, has been selected to deliver the new Midlands Metropolitan Hospital on the Grove Lane site in Smethwick.
The contract was awarded to the JV in August 2015.
Features of the 670-bed facility include 13 operating theatre suites, a full enclosed winter garden, and car parking within the building on both the ground and first floors.
It is understood the design and construction of the hospital also meets high sustainability levels, while Carillion will provide training/apprenticeship opportunities throughout the project.
Adam Green, MD of Carillion Construction Services, said: "This project will help create a wealth of opportunities for local people and businesses, through jobs, skills, training and apprenticeships and when it is complete, the hospital will provide state-of-the-art healthcare for the people of Sandwell and West Birmingham for years to come."
The project due for completion in mid-2018 with the hospital opening later that year.
