About RDW Quantity Surveyors
Leader in Quantity Surveying
RDW Quantity Surveyors was established in 1993 by Roy Williamson MRICS in order to provide effective advice and services in connection with the measurement and valuation of Building and Civil engineering works to clients of building projects, builders, property developers, and sub-contractors.
All aspects of quantity surveying are undertaken, including pre-contract works, post-contract works and final account settlements. Unlike many quantity surveying firms, RDW Quantity Surveyors specialise in producing detailed estimates for builders and sub-contractors from drawings, specifications and enquiries, or for negotiated tenders between clients and selected builders.
In the case of contractual disputes or disagreements over the valuation of works, RDW Quantity Surveyors can act for one party or as an intermediary mediator as a cost effective way of settling such disputes or differences.
RDW Quantity Surveyors currently operates throughout Cumbria, Lancashire, Northumberland, south west Scotland and the Borders. They have also been involved in jobs further afield throughout the United Kingdom.
Works can be quoted for in advance, or an estimate given based on an hourly rate, or simply charged by the hour. Rates are highly competitive by comparison to other local practices. As RDW Quantity Surveyors operate from a home office, their fees are significantly lower than the UK average rate for quantity surveyors. RDW Quantity Surveyors are not currently VAT registered and do not therefore charge VAT.
Services
Pre-Contract Services
An initial appraisal of the Contract Drawings/Details if available at this stage followed by a conversation with the client or builder to discuss the requirements and budgetary constraints will allow RDW Quantity Surveyors to recommend the most suitable type of document for the particular project and/or the level of detail required.
RDW Quantity Surveyors have their own tried and tested estimating system which split each item down into labour, material, plant, sub-contract works, provisional sums, overheads and profit. Each of these sub headings is added to give a total section value and contract value for each of these categories.
This provides an invaluable management tool which can be used for budgeting and as a basis of target resourcing the project to meet a programme and to produce monthly management accounts. Also it can be used to ensure sub-contracted works are kept within budget.
Post-Contract Services
Post-contract financial management by an experienced Quantity Surveyor is often overlooked by clients and contractors which can, and often does, lead to contractual disputes and significant legal expenses and financial difficulties.
