About Federation Of Master Builders

About Federation of Master Builders
The Federation of Master Builders (FMB) supports sole traders and small and medium-sized (SME) construction companies to grow and manage their building business.
As the largest trade association in the UK construction industry, the FMB represents the interests of SME building companies across the UK and lobbies national and devolved governments for more support for the sector.

Supporting builders
In an unlicensed industry, credibility is everything. Becoming a Master Builder enables quality builders to stand out from the competition, but the FMB badge of quality must be earned. New members are required to pass a strict vetting and independent inspection process before joining to ensure they meet the high standards of a Master Builder.
FMB members also benefit from a wide range of membership services that help to support their business, such as:
  • Saving time and money: FMB contract templates help members to save time, and training courses and supplier discounts help to save money.

  • Accessing expert advice: Members can access unlimited expert advice through business helplines that offer guidance with tax, finance, legal matters, health and safety, HR, debt recovery, and more.

  • Registering with TrustMark: TrustMark is the only government-endorsed standards scheme for trades that operate in and around the home. Trades must join via a scheme operator, and the FMB is the largest.

  • Joining a community: Members can connect online and through events to support each other. Member feedback also helps the FMB to lobby governments for support, and to campaign for changes such as introducing a mandatory licensing scheme for the UK construction industry.

The FMB is run by members, for members and operates in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. The FMB has been supporting SME builders since 1941 and as a not-for-profit organisation, membership fees are reinvested into supporting and promoting members.

To apply to join, visit the Website.

Supporting homeowners
The FMB also connects consumers with quality, local Master Builders through its online, free Find a Builder service. Homeowners can build with confidence when they choose a vetted and independently inspected Master Builder for their building project. Visit www.fmb.org.uk/fab
