Constructionarium

Established over ten years ago, Constructionarium provides a 'hands-on' construction experience for students and professionals, where participants construct scaled-down versions of bridges, buildings, dams and civil engineering projects from all around the world. The principle is to link academic institutes with industry, and to ensure that the students are able to apply the knowledge they have gained in a practical, safe and relevant environment.

The basic model consists of a triangle formed by an academic institution, a contractor and a consultant - working in partnership to deliver a new learning experience which combines the academic perspective with those of the design professional and practical site delivery. Delegates are assessed throughout the week in respect of budgetary control, methodology and project management.

Constructionarium is typically delivered as a 6 day working field course at our secure sites.

Why Attend
For students, Constructionarium is a field trip suitable for anyone studying a Built Environment related qualification. It provides a practical platform through its portfolio of projects for students to apply their theoretical knowledge in a safe environment. Many universities have offered Constructionarium as either an integrated module as part of their degree offering or as an optional field trip.

The JBM (Joint Board of Moderators), the ICE (Institution of Civil Engineers) and the IStructE (Institution of Structural Engineers) fully support and endorse Constructionarium.

By linking with an academic institute, industry partners have been able to use Constructionarium as a way of inspiring the next generation of Contractors, Consultants, Engineers, Designers, Quantity Surveyors, Architects and Construction Managers, and can provide an overview to feed their emerging talent pipelines.

Companies have also used Constructionarium as part of their Graduate Induction Programme to share their Health & Safety behaviours and company values. They use the opportunity to develop the core personal skills (communication, team-working, project management, etc.) that each individual will need as they embark on their development programme.

Academic Partners
Constructionarium is a field trip that is suitable for any undergraduate studying a Built Environment-related degree. It provides a practical platform through its portfolio of projects, for students to apply their theorical knowldege. Many universities have offered Constructionarium as either a intergrated module as part of their degree offering or as an optional field trip.

As well as providing the practical element to support an academic curriculum, Constructionarium also provides delegates with valuable employability skills – teamwork, leadership, project management, site experience, budget control, H&S instruction, as well as providing a live case study for the students to discuss with prospective employers when they are seeking summer, industrial or graduate employment.

Costs:
For university students attending during 2015/16, the cost is £200.00 per person. There is no charge for academics attending to support and deliver the programme. To book a place, please complete the booking form and return to Constructionarium. Constructionarium will require a purchase order to process the booking form, and an invoice will be issued against the purchase order number.

Accommodation is provided, and booked separately and directly with the National Construction College team at Bircham Newton for all delegates, lecturers, industry personnel and support staff. The current cost (as at 1st Jan. 2016) is £55.00 pppn for a single en-suite room, £40.00 for a standard room with a shared bathroom and £70.00 for a twin en-suite. Contractors

It also provides a week-long interview experience to feed their emerging talent pipelines.

Delegates have had the benefit of receiving support and coaching from some of the leading UK Construction organisations, understanding their methods of working, and developing their working and personal skills sets.
