BAE Systems Environmental is a vertically integrated contaminated land consultancy providing desk studies, ground investigations, environmental risk assessment and geotechnical appraisal, remediation consultancy, contracting and technology, decommissioning services, and contaminated land laboratory testing.
Established in the late 1980s to fulfill an in-house requirement, our multi-disciplinary team has the experience and wide-ranging expertise to deal with specialised and often sensitive land contamination issues in the most cost-effective way.
Offering an integrated approach to the investigation, assessment and remediation of contaminated land our skills, supported by our in-house laboratory, are available to residential and commercial property developers, land owners, local authorities and fellow consultants.
We are a recognised specialist in the investigation and remediation of military and defence related sites particularly those that have a history of uses involving explosives, ordnance, chemical weapons agents.
As a major landowner and site operator we believe our understanding of the commercial, planning, and regulatory complexities faced when selling or purchasing property gives us a unique skills set in any project.
From the landowner’s perspective, the process of contaminated land management is summarised on our Contaminated Land Management Flow Chart that also shows example exit points from the process.
Recognising the potential environmental liabilities and issues associated with the management and redevelopment of brownfield land is the first step in unlocking its potential value.
Our specialist understanding of the issues surrounding defence related sites (that can often be perceived issues only), coupled with UKAS and MCERTS accredited analysis of explosives and conventional contaminants in our in-house contaminated land laboratory, gives us unparalleled knowledge in assessing and enabling redevelopment of brownfield land.
BAE Systems Environmental also has the added responsibility of managing the BAE Systems Corporate Contaminated Land Strategy. BAE Systems is committed to collecting and managing all information relating to potential contaminated land issues on its properties and where necessary, prioritise areas of contaminated land for remedial action in much the same way as the Local Authorities of England, Scotland & Wales.
