About Birmingham Archaeology
Birmingham Archaeology is the commercial arm of the Institute of Archaeology and Antiquity, University of Birmingham. We comprise three distinct teams; Birmingham Archaeology Heritage Services, the Visual and Spatial Technology Centre (VISTA) and Birmingham Archaeo-Environmental (BAE). Each of the groups is responsible for the undertaking of commercial projects and services, the development of research projects and the delivery of postgraduate and professional training via taught Masters programmes and CPD workshops. Archaeological Services We provide a fully comprehensive range of archaeological services ranging from rapid archaeological appraisals, desk-top studies and advice at the pre-application stage through to working with developers to devise and implement cost-effective solutions where future archaeological work is required by the local planning authority. |
Built Heritage and Conservation Our specialist Built Heritage and Conservation Team provides a diverse range of services including historic building recording and analysis, conservation advice, metric survey, GIS, 3D laser scanning and 3D modelling. We are uniquely placed to tailor our projects to combine traditional methods with cutting edge technology, and to provide informed advice. |
Outreach Birmingham Archaeology is committed to working with all sectors of our local community to encourage a wider appreciation of our shared heritage. We have a designated team of experienced personnel to plan and manage bespoke public and education sessions whatever your project, ensuring that you reach the widest possible audience. |
Environmental Services Birmingham Archaeo-Environmental provides a complete archaeo-environmental package from project design and field work through to laboratory analysis and publication standard reports. In-house proxy experience includes pollen, waterlogged and charred plant remains, human bone, diatoms, molluscs and palaeoentomology. |
Visualisation The Visual and Spatial Technology Centre (VISTA) supports academic research and application development for spatial analysis, visualisation and imaging using state-of-the-art technology in one of the best-equipped archaeological visualisation laboratories in Europe. VISTA services include 3D laser scanning, GIS, remote sensing, geophysics and visualisation. |
