Agrostis has been transforming outdoor sports surfaces of all kinds since our foundation in 2005. We provide expert guidance on design, procurement, construction and maintenance for anything with natural grass and the full range of artificial sports surfaces, including 3G pitches, needlepunch, sand dressed/filled, etc.

Whether you need simple and straightforward agronomic advice for your lawn or your golf course, or if you are designing a multi-million pound sports complex with both natural and artificial surfaces, and everything in between, we are here to help. We combine extensive technical knowledge with a rounded appreciation of the aesthetic, cultural and environmental value of outdoor surfaces designed for sport, general amenity and recreation.

With over 25 years’ experience in sports research and consulting, we aim to provide our clients with the highest standard of playing surface that their budget will allow. Football, hockey, polo, rugby, golf, bowls, cricket, tennis, croquet, racecourses, private lawns, public open space, equestrian ... in fact, we advise on just about every outdoor sport you can think of.

The Service
Since we operate within an already highly specialised field, we aim to provide all our clients with a comprehensive (and comprehensible) service applicable to sites and projects at all levels and stages. This ranges from the provision of simple agronomy advice or sample-data interpretation, to the complete consultancy service for new facility development.

Advisory Services
Agrostis has been providing independent advice to sports facilities of every kind since 2005. Tim Lodge, the founder of Agrostis, has been providing such advice since 1995. Tim is a registered Expert Witness on sports turf and a founder member of RIPTA, the Register of Independent Professional Turfgrass Agronomists.

No two sports facilities are alike, so an individual assessment of the clients’ needs is undertaken in each case.

Artificial Pitch Design and Construction
We believe that artificial surfaces should first and foremost fulfil the needs of the community they are intended to serve. As such, they should be constructed with the same expectations in terms of their social and environmental impact as other forms of recreational space, while, of course, satisfying the needs of the particular sport or sports they are intended to serve.

New Sports Facility Development
If you are interested in developing any number of sports pitches, we will manage the whole project for you, from initial site investigation to finished playing surface. As experienced sports surface designers and project managers, we bring all the elements together to realise your ideas, whatever the scale. Agrostis will initiate and monitor the project from beginning to end.

Golf Course Agronomy
Tim Lodge, Director of Agrostis, has over 20 years experience in golf research, agronomy and construction. Consultancy services for golf, all provided by Tim, are tailored to suit the client. Some prefer a one-off advisory visit to resolve a particular issue, while others follow a regular programme of visits, once, twice or more times each year. Due to the diverse nature of golf courses, the subjects that particular advisory visits tend to focus on are equally diverse.

Garden design and installation
In association with Mia Witham of Forma Landscapes, Agrostis now provides a complete garden design and installation service. Blending Agrostis' extensive knowledge and experience of specification and contract preparation, procurement and project management with Mia's passion and understanding of gardens and outdoor spaces, we provide the 'one stop' solution for your garden design and installation needs.

Polo Ground Construction and Advisory Services
Ground consultants to the Hurlingham Polo Association, Agrostis offer a full range of services to cover all aspects of polo ground development & management, including:
