Ready Mix Concrete
Back in the 1980s the Quarry diversified from just processing stone and set up a “Ready Mixed Concrete” plant. Originally, this plant was set up to service one mixer truck. We now keep six full time mixer trucks including one with a demountable conveyor.
The concrete is manufactured using our own 20mm chippings and imported sand and cement. The concrete is CQA registered and ISO 9002 compliant.
Stone Aggregates
H.V. Bowen & Sons acquired Tan-Y-Foel Quarry back in the 1940s and since that time has been extracting and processing stone. In the early days the stone was mainly used for building roads and houses, compared to today where the stone is crushed and screened into various sizes and is used for a wide range of activities from sea and river anti-erosion, building stone, drainage stone, road construction, Readymix concrete manufacturing and ornamental features.
Crushing and Screening
Our quarrying background enables us to carry out crushing and screening contracts away from the Tan-Y-Foel quarry. Not only do we have the correct equipment for the job, we have the experienced operatives to undertake the contracts quickly and efficiently. We also have our own transport company to deliver/collect the plant as required.
About Us
H.V. Bowen & Sons was formed in 1907 by Harry Vaughn Bowen trading with “Horse & Cart”. He then purchased “Dwyrhiew Mill” in New Mills, Nr Newtown in 1911 and started working “Tan-y-Foel Quarry” in the 1930s. He and his wife Mary Jane had four children John, Tom, Maurice and Doris (Tanner).
The company was carried forward by Harry's sons, until eventually there was only Tom Bowen & his wife Mary Catherine left in the business who continued to live on the site at Dwyrhiew Mill where they brought up their children Haydn & Delyth.
One hundred years on the company is now run by Haydn, his wife Gwyneth and their son Mark. The company has now expanded to a point where they employ over thirty people from the local area.
The wealth of knowledge the company has gained over one hundred years enables the company to stand out from the competition and to serve the needs of the local community whether it be:-
Fuels, Oil, Animal Feeds, Fertilizer, Coal, Sand or Cement either collected or delivered from our Fuel and Agricultural Merchants in Dwyrhiew Mill, New Mills, Newtown.
Building stone, Road stone, Drainage stone, Fill material, Ready Mixed concrete or Sand can be collected or delivered from Tan-y-foel Quarry, Cefn Coch, Welshpool.
