About FLI Structures
Francis and Lewis International Ltd (FLI Structures) has been established for over 60 years and is a leader in the design, manufacture, supply and installation of Screw Pile foundations and Steel Grillages.
FLI’s Screw pile foundation solutions are suitable for Railway, Highways, Construction, Telecoms, Civils and Renewable structures including Portal Gantries, Cantilever Gantries, OLE, Signal Posts, Platforms, Masts, Met Masts, Towers, CCTV, Lighting Columns and Sign Posts etc. With a strong innovative culture, FLI’s in house engineering and design teams are constantly innovating new solutions to solve either design or onsite problems. FLI have a range of standard off-the-shelf products available however bespoke design and customisation is a core part of final solution bringing innovation to projects, to enhance site safety, to save time on site and save our clients money.

Screw Piles:
FLI Piles will support structures in both tension and compression providing an ideal solution where overturning moments are significant. The piles are individually designed by our engineers to suit the separate ground conditions on the site. The torques are recorded during installation to confirm that adequate capacity has been achieved. Testing can be done simply, if required.
Steel Grillages:
Depending on the size and weight of the structure being supported, a traditional foundation of this type (sometimes called a floating foundation) is a large box-like structure, not unlike the mesh cages used to reinforce concrete structures. Unlike the latter, where the reinforcement is ultimately surrounded by concrete, a steel grillage is a rigid construction that's placed at sufficient depth below ground that the weight of soil removed to place it equals the weight of the supported structure. Increasingly, for structures such as road signs or railway gantries, steel grillages consist of one or more steel beams (an interface) mounted on underlying helical piles.
Helical Screw piles:
A helical pile consists of a galvanised steel shaft onto which is welded a series of low-pitched circular steel plates. The piles, varying in diameter from tens to hundreds of millimetres, are screwed into the ground with hand-held or machine-mounted hydraulic or electrically powered drilling equipment. The applications range from underpinning to support of roadside structures such as signs and gantries.
Driven Piles:
Steel driven end bearing piles are installed using hydraulic hammers with an accelerated drop weight, in conjunction with side mounted vibro hammers. The piles range in size from 457mm and go up to 610mm. Our driven pile solution offers higher productivity compared with traditional concrete raft foundations. Typically used for foundations where moment and shear forces are high they are predominantly used where space is limited and the ground is strong.
With over 60 years experience in steel structures, our in-house design and manufacturing capability enables us to offer you competitive prices and quick delivery lead times.
Mark Giltsoff at the construction group Skanska said: ''What impresses me about the Haley Group is their drive. They are perpetually improving their business and innovating, all of which helps our business. Over the past 12 months they have contributed to the safety programme, environmental impact and cost targets of our construction projects.''

- Quick to install – saving time & money
- No excavations or spoil to cart away – saving money particularly if there is contaminated ground
- No concrete or curing time – speedier commissioning of sites
- Small footprint – smaller bases in restricted areas
- Flexible design - frames can be designed to bridge services
- Sustainable solution – they are removable & re-useable
- Installation in low temperatures – no down time unlike concrete
- Cost effective solution in soft ground, where traditional piling is more expensive and concrete is technically unsuitable
- Railways – reduced possession time
- Highways – less traffic management and safer working areas
