Retro Fit
Traditional box sash windows look so much better than PVC but they are often draughty, awkward to open or don't open at all.
Thanks to modern double glazing and draught-proofing it's possible to have high performance sliding sashes fitted into existing box frames, benefiting from modern efficient double glazing without loosing the original look and feel of a traditional sash window.
Complete Replacement
Alternatively we can offer complete WER 'A'-rated replacement box sash windows with high performance double glazing. Compliant to meet current Government regulations.

We specialise in traditional timber Box Sash & Casement windows only.
We do NOT deal with PVC, plastic, aluminum or spiral balance windows, except to remove them to reinstate traditional sash windows.
Hi-Performance Double Glazing
Generally a complete new box sash window will use a 4-16-4 double glazed unit. With one 4mm soft coat inner pane, a 16mm cavity and a 4mm outer pane with either Argon or Krypton gas filled and a warm edge spacer bar. This could potentially achieve a Centre Pane U-value of 1.1 (WER rating A).
Replacement double glazed sash openers into existing box frames may be limited to a lower cavity thickness therefore a Centre Pane U-value may differ.

What is the best timber to use for Sash Windows?
Accoya®
In our opinion this is the best timber to use in the construction of timber sash windows. Accoya® wood is a high performance wood created from sustainable-sourced timber. Perfect for demanding applications such as windows and doors where it is important that tolerances are tight yet regardless of the conditions, they open year round. Excellent paint adhesion, excellent thermal performance with no movement. Life expectancy 50 - 60 years.

Red Wood
Medium quality European soft wood. Moderately Good timber to use in the construction of timber sash windows. Probably the most commonly used timber in construction today used for things such as interior door frames, architrave and skirting boards etc.
Sapele
Medium quality African hard wood. Reasonably good timber to use in the construction of timber sash windows. A moderately durable timber but has some paint adheresion issues, some small possible movement.
