About Marshfield Stone Ltd

Over the past few years Natural Cotswold Stone Tiles, both new and second-hand, have become increasingly costly and are now in very short supply. It is because of this shortage, and the lack of a suitable alternative, that our company has been developed.

Marshfield Stone Tiles are an excellent alternative to real stone tiles and have been used on many homes in and around the Cotswolds, including new houses and listed buildings. Our tiles can also be used to blend in with original Cotswold stone tiles, when for example, there may be insufficient to finish a roof.

Unlike other imitation tiles, our products sit well amongst natural Cotswold stone, and will weather over the years to become indistinguishable from natural stone tiles.

About Us
Since 1989, Marshfield Stone Tiles have been made by hand at our factory in the Cotswolds.

Our replica roofing tiles are manufactured in concrete, using a unique moulding process to reproduce exact copies of original stone tiles. These tiles are produced in over a thousand different tile sizes. The concrete used in manufacture is coloured and varies in shade, this ensures that once laid, they give the authentic appearance of a natural cotswold stone tile roof.

Marshfield Stone employ a quality control system to the standards laid down in BS 5750, to ensure consistent product quality. The tiles have undergone independent assessment by CERAM Research Ltd – Whereby they are tested for transverse strength, water absorption, sensitivity and freeze/thaw characteristics. Their conclusion states that Marshfield Stone Roof Tiles Ltd exceed the transverse strength requirements of EN 490 and EN 491 (2004,2008). Tests indicate this the product will have adequate resistance to frost, when used as a covering to timber roofs of 40 degree pitch and above, in the normal exposure conditions of the United Kingdom.

Copies of the report are available for inspection if required.

Product Range
Marshfield Stone tiles are much quicker to lay than original stone tiles, as there is no need for sorting, trimming or drilling. Valley tiles can be manufactured if required or cut with a disc cutter and dressed with a hammer to give an authentic edge.

The roof should have an underlay or a current breather membrane, for example, Tyvek, Proctor, Roofshield, or Klober Permoforte – as used with original stone tiles. Marshfield Stone tiles feature a 20mm x 20mm hanging ‘nib’ to enable faster, more efficient laying of our slates. This information is detailed in our fixing specification, a copy of which is sent with each order and is available from our website.

A batten schedule is provided for each individual roof with measurements taken from drawings provided, or a site visit from one of our surveyors. Alternatively, tiles can be supplied to the customer’s own requirements.

As Marshfield Stone tiles are exact replicas of original stone tiles, they should be treated as such and fixed only by an experienced roofer. Our tiles are recommended for use on roofs with a pitch of 40 degrees or higher. Please call or email us to discuss roofs with a pitch of less than 40 degrees.

Sizes
Marshfield Stone tiles are produced in a range of sizes: 22”, 20”, 18”, 16”, 14”, 12”, 10” and 8”. They also come in numerous width sizes, supplied in sufficient quantities to provide a natural mix on the roof. All tiles feature a hanging nib (20mm x 20mm) and also come with 7mm hole for nailing if required.
