Air Tightness Testing Overview
Air tightness testing allows us to determine the rate of air leakage through the building envelope at a given pressure. Air pressure testing results are important to builders to ensure they comply with Part L of the Building Regulations. These regulations provide standards and guidance for "The Conservation of Fuel and Power" in buildings. Meeting or exceeding these regulations will help produce buildings that are both comfortable and energy efficient.

Mould on Walls & Condensation Risk Analysis
Mould on walls caused by condensation is an extremely common problem in new and old British buildings. Condensation in buildings is a form of dampness that is caused by moisture in the air. As air cools, it reduces in volume which makes it’s relative humidity increase. When the relative humidity reaches around 90% the moisture starts changing from a gas into a liquid. This is called the Dew Point. The two types of condensation that we commonly see affecting buildings are:

• Surface Condensation – Most commonly found on the surface of impermeable surfaces such as metals, plastics, glass and tiles. It can also occur on the surface of permeable surfaces. Surface Condensation occurs when the surface of the material has a temperature equal or lower than the dew point temperature of the surrounding air.


• Interstitial Condensation - This occurs inside permeable materials such as plaster & brickwork. This happens when water vapour passes through a material and is allowed to cool sufficiently to reach its dew point.
