Farnborough Blinds Company Ltd

The Farnborough Blind Company was established in 1985 making blinds for the trade from modest premises in Farnborough Kent. Rapid growth in the early years meant the company needed to relocate three times, to bigger and better premises in order to meet the demand for its increasing product range. This expansion meant that by 1995 the Farnborough Blind Company was occupying a 14,000 square foot factory in Orpington, Kent, and employing over 20 full time staff, with manufacturing dominated by demand for Venetian, Vertical and Blackout blinds.

In recent years focus has switched more from the large-scale manufacture and supply of high volume blind sales, towards custom bespoke projects and the specialised industry of motorised blind systems. This has only been possible through the decision early on to invest in staff skills and in establishing a dedicated research and design department, responsible for developing our own range of electronic blind control systems, including the CM3 intelligent relay units which provide for programmable blind integration with home automation and lighting control systems, such as Lutron and Crestron. Farnborough Blind Company now prides itself in having a reputation as one of the leading suppliers and innovators in the electronic blind sector.


BLIND CORD SAFETY ADVICE AND INFORMATION
In the United States where looped blind cords have subsequently been banned the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) conducted a study over a 10 year period to determine the dangers posed by various types of window treatments.

The CPSC study found:

• Every month at least one 7- to 10-month-old child dies from window cord strangulation
• During this period another child suffers a near strangulation
• 60% of the incidents involved cords used in horizontal Venetian type blinds
• 40% of incidents involved continuous loop systems used in draperies and vertical blinds
• Over the last few years the CPSC has recalled over 5 million varieties of shades, blinds, and window coverings
• In 2009 the CPSC recalled 50 million Roman shades and blinds, one of the largest product recalls in the organization’s history.
• Over 80% of all blind entanglement deaths and injuries occurred with older products that have either been recalled or do not meet current standards
