About Milner Ecology Ltd
Milner Ecology Ltd was established in 2007 as an independent ecological consultancy providing expert advice to the public and private sector. We are experienced in all aspects of ecological consultancy and have undertaken over 250 projects in the last six years ranging from initial ecological appraisals, through Phase 1 Habitat surveys and planning reports to protected species licences and EcIAs.
A key aspect of our approach is a commitment to understand and advise on projects from initial conception, throughout the planning process to on-site supervision of construction activities and mitigation measures.
The company is committed to maintaining professional standards and is registered with The Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) and the Society for the Environment (SocEnv). As part of the codes of conduct for these institutions Milner Ecology Ltd holds £1 million Professional Indemnity Insurance and Public Liability Insurance. We also undertake regular training to keep abreast of the latest developments and legislation.
In addition, Milner Ecology Ltd belongs to a wide network of independent ecologists with specialist experience of rare groups such as invertebrates, bats and breeding birds. These can be called on to ensure that all projects are undertaken by staff with the appropriate licenses and skills for each occasion.
Ecological Survey and Assessment
We offer a full range of surveying and assessment techniques, including Phase 1 Habitat survey and more detailed Phase 2 surveys including Invasive Species surveys for Japanese Knotweed etc. through to full Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA).
We asses each project individually and undertake only those services which the project requires. These surveys provide valuable information to support planning applications. They can identify potential habitats for protected species, and any constraints that might impact on a project – all of which can help avoid costly delays later.
BREEAM/CSH
Milner Ecology Ltd meets the 'Suitably Qualified Ecologist' (SQE) Criteria which enables us to prepare code reports in relation to the Ecological Criteria (Eco 1-4). Our approach is to maximise the amount of credits available to our clients, whilst achieving real ecological gains. We have experience of gaining ecological credits for the Code for Sustainable Homes (CSH) and BREEAM Schools projects which can be applied across the BREEAM portfolio.
Protected Species Licensing and Mitigation
We offer a comprehensive survey and assessment service covering all plant and animal groups including those specifically protected by UK and European wildlife legislation. We hold handling and disturbance licences for a range of protected species.
We are also experienced in the on-site delivery and implementation of protected species licences both for European Protected Species and those covered by the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 (as amended).
Ecological Clerk of Works
Milner Ecology Ltd can provide supervision of project implementation, ecological watching brief, environmental record keeping, environmental audit and production of ecological method statements. We also bring extensive experience of translating technically complex ecological documents in an appropriately tailored manner to a variety of operatives from project managers to on-site contractors.
Mapping
The presentation of potentially complex ecological information in visual form is a key part of Phase 1 Habitat surveys and is also undertaken as part of data searches, Ecological Impact Assessments and protected species licences. Maps provide an essential tool for contractors to illustrate constraints and for implementing mitigation measures. We can provide a full range of mapping solutions for your project.
Project Management
Milner Ecology Ltd has the knowledge and experience to provide the project management and support required to ensure the ecological elements of your project come in on time and within budget.
