About Ron The Welder
I offer a comprehensive repair and welding service for maintenance and metal fabrication and I will undertake industrial, commercial, plant, marine, vehicle (MOT) or domestic welding. Depending on material and the situation, there's MIG welding, TIG welding, ARC welding or brazing for fabrication and repair of Mild Steel, Stainless Steel, Cast Iron or Aluminium.
My equipment is mobile, light and portable and all powered from a 240volt domestic supply, allowing the repair of an item at your location should this be appropriate. I am covered by a full Public Liability. Insurance for all work carried out, including work in marinas and boat yards.
I have building maintenance experience and can carry out structural steel welding, modifications and repairs. I also use CAD for layouts and design of components, and offer FREE FRIENDLY ADVICE.
Sometimes welding isn't appropriate especially if heat is an issue, but often an item can be repaired by other mechanical means, drilling and tapping or fabricating a support from other materials, bridging a broken section or replacing a component altogether. Sometimes cast items do not lend themselves to welding and require bespoke methods of fixing.
I have over 20 years of experience and if I don't feel that welding is appropriate I'll tell you.
TIG Welding
The TIG welding (Tungsten Inert Gas) process uses a transformer to send an electric current through a tungsten rod which arcs to the work piece which is connected via a lead back to the set, which allows the current to flow.
When the button is pressed the tungsten rod becomes white hot and if it weren't for all the protection of the shielding gas this rod would instantly burn away due to the oxygen in the air. Hence TIG welding must be carried out in a still environment.
MIG Welding
In the MIG process (Metal Inert Gas) electric current is transferred to the work piece via an insulated torch and through a copper tip into a thin consumable wire which short circuits onto the work piece. This filler wire melts instantaneously, flowing over the work and melting it together.
The process is the commonest and quickest form of welding, and allows material of all thicknesses to be easily joined. It is the best way to repair thin materials, vehicle parts and chassis.
Bespoke Fabrication
I also undertake bespoke fabrication and production work. I'll always make a jig or fixture making when volume production is required. This means I am able to faithfully reproduce items accurately and cost effectively. I have undertaken work for local firms when they need my particular specialties.
I have a workshop and the facilities to fabricate a variety of components and through local contacts can offer laser cutting, water jet cutting, CNC punching and shearing.
Mobile Welding
I also offer a mobile service. I enjoy the variety of work that welding presents and no two days are the same. All my equipment is lightweight and powered by 240 volts. This enables me to carry out works and repairs at your premises, site or home.
I also offer structural welding services for builders, MOT repair service for vehicles, and also maintenance for industrial applications; gate and railing repairs; in fact any broken metal item can usually be fabricated or fixed. Alternatively, if no electricity is present a generator can be used.
Vehicle Welding
Vehicle repairs involve their own set of problems and solutions. Often the vehicle has to be off the road for the minimum amount of time, and repairs range from cosmetic to structural. In all cases the repair has to be sound and functional and sometimes an area of chassis or body might needs to be recreated. No two jobs are ever the same and often a challenge.
I have MOT stations that use my services and ask me to weld at their premises on a ramp. If a vehicle requires welding underneath a ramp is best. If you require MOT welding, phone me and we can arrange that you take your car to a friendly garage!
