About Skip Hire Services
Skip Hire Sizes
We can provide an array of skip sizes, perfect for any job size and most types of waste. For small domestic jobs that only require a small amount of waste, a mini skip may be the best option. Mini skips are normally available in 2 to 4 yard capacities, and can hold an assortment of waste from a garden clearance or kitchen refit.
For larger jobs, builders skips are a popular choice with both domestic and commercial clients. These skips can hold a substantial amount of waste, and are used for any number of different jobs. They are useful for DIY projects where multiple projects will be taking place at once, such as bathroom and kitchen refits.
We can also provide specialist skips, such as a lockable skip, which will ensure your waste is kept secure, and prevent illegal dumping of unwanted waste into your skip. Skip sizes are available from small 2-yard skips right through to the extra large Roll-on Roll-off 40 yard skips.
Skip Hire Prices
We are proud to offer some of the best skip hire deals in the UK, with prices starting as little as £70 for our mini skips, and even less for our skip bags. Our great value pricing is available on all of our skip sizes, and we can provide skips throughout all of the UK. For more information on the costs of hiring a skip, visit our skip hire price guide.
Skip Hire Services is one of the first skip hire providers in the UK to introduce trailer mounted skips. These skips are set to revolutionise the waste removal and DIY industries. Trailer mounted skips have the benefit of not requiring a skip hire permit, even if they are parked on council land, which helps keep costs down, and makes them useful for clients with limited or no space on their property. Skip trailers are also lockable, which helps prevent theft from your skip, as well as unwanted and prohibited items from being illegally dumped in your skip.
What can you put into a skip?
Before ordering a skip, it is important to ensure that your waste will be allowed in a skip. Skip hire is perfect for most types of waste, but there are some restrictions. Below are some of the common items that are not allowed in a skip:
- Electrical Items
- Tyres
- Paint, Solvents, Oil
- Compressed Gas Cylinders
- Batteries
- Hazardous Materials (eg. asbestos, explosives, medical waste, etc.)
- Plasterboard (plasterboard can not be placed in a skip with general waste, and must be put into a separate skip or specialist plasterboard skip bag)
We operate nationwide, and have a base in London. Our friendly team is available to answer any questions you may have, and if you would like a quote, please contact us today.

How Clients Hire a Skip
One of the biggest changes that we have seen in the skip hire industry is the development in the way skip firms book their clients. Gone are the days of simply advertising in print. Now you need to have an online presence.
Online booking options are now also available that work in much the same way as when you book a hotel online. You can search for several different companies, and then simply choose the cheapest, in seconds. Whilst seems good for consumers, it does require skip firms to be extremely competitive with their pricing to win clients who are simply looking for the best value deal.
Skip Hire Alternatives
Back in the day, skip hire was the main option if you wanted to get rid of a fair amount of waste. They are solid, convenient and affordable, but now there are a range of skip hire alternatives that skip firms need to contend with. The two main alternatives are rubbish removal teams and skip bags.
Rubbish removal teams use a van or truck, and collect the rubbish themselves, meaning that the clients do not have to do the heavy lifting. However, for this service, the rubbish needs to be ready for collection, and it does not provide the convenience of filling a skip as the waste is created.
Skip bags work in much the same way as a skip, but they are not rigid and are only available in smaller sizes. They are often either posted to the customer, or purchased from a hardware store, which provides convenience for consumers.
Landfill Tax & Recycling
With landfill tax increases, there has never been a more pivotal time to shift towards higher levels of recycling. There are many skip firms that now boast recycling rates of more than 95%, which is great news for the environment, and also saves skip operators a significant amount on their disposal costs. It is almost certain that the need to recycle as much waste as possible will continue, as landfill taxes continue to rise and consumers demand more sustainability from skip firms.
As well as the serious activities, the night also have some fun treats that will be remembered. We would like to say thanks for the corporate photo booth from PhotosBooth. We would highly recommend them for anyone looking for a great and affordable photo booth package for their function.
Some of the most popular uses for our skips are driveway installations. This is because the old driveway must be removed before the new driveway can be installed. There are a number of driveway options available, but one of the most popular we see when removing skips is block paving, which provides an attractive and durable drive.
Most domestic driveway removals only require a small skip, often no more than a midi or mini skip. For larger drives, patios and commercial jobs, a builders or maxi skip may be required. Skips provide affordable rubbish removal, and are a convenient waste disposal solution during the driveway removal process.
As the driveway is being removed and re-installed, most skips hired for this purpose need to be placed on the road. As a result, a skip permit will be required. Skip permits are obtained from your local council, and your skip provider will normally obtain this on your behalf. Skip permit prices normally range from £15 to more than £60.
Skips are often hired by both professional driveway contractors and DIY enthusiasts for the purpose of driveway removal. The waste that is removed during this process is often completely recycled, which is great for the environment, and makes skip hire a very clean waste disposal option.
Regardless of how big or how little your job is, we can provide the perfect skip for your requirements. If your skip will be left in a publicly accessible area, and you want to keep your waste secure or prevent unwanted additions to your skip, we can provide a lockable skip.

As a skip firm, one of the most common questions we receive is whether asbestos can be thrown into a skip. In most cases, asbestos cannot be thrown into a skip, as it is a hazardous waste. To remove and dispose of asbestos, specialist training and guidelines are required. Whilst every reputable skip company has a waste carriers licence, very few have the required certification and licences to remove and dispose of asbestos.
Asbestos is extremely dangerous, and should be removed by a trained and licenced professional. For several decades, asbestos was heavily mined and regularly used for a number of materials in the building industry. There are over 3,000 products that have been made with asbestos, ranging from pipe insulation through to roof tiles. Asbestos was only banned in 1999 in the UK, so most homes built prior to the year 2000 are likely to contain asbestos containing materials (ACMs).
Asbestos can be extremely hazardous
DIY asbestos removal is not uncommon, mainly due to the asbestos removal costs, but asbestos can be extremely dangerous to your health and if often best left to a contractor. Whilst it may seem expensive to hire a professional, they will be able to conduct a survey and determine the presence of asbestos. An asbestos survey can help provide a management plan, and removal may not always be necessary. In some cases, the asbestos can be encapsulated or left undisturbed, which will save you a considerable amount of money. Asbestos surveys can be affordable, and will ensure you have a better understanding of the asbestos containing materials in your property.
We advise that you do not try and hide asbestos containing materials in your skip. Asbestos is extremely hazardous, and can cause serious health issues and fatalities. After collection, every skip is emptied and sorted into piles for recycling. If your skip contains asbestos, you will put the health of the workers at risk, as well as the wider public. If ACMs are discovered in your skip, you can face a fine or prosecution.
For more information on asbestos rules and regulations, check out the HSE website.
At Skip Hire Services, we pride ourselves on delivering affordable rates. Not only are we looking to introduce cheaper skip rates with our new trailer skips, but our traditional mini skips will also be more affordable.
Our new budget skips will be available in many areas throughout the UK. The affordable pricing will primarily be available on the smallest of our skips, including the mini and midi range, and there are limitations and restrictions to be eligible for the lower rates.
The price reduction will be made possible with limitation on materials that can be thrown into the skip. For the best rates, waste materials must be of a recyclable nature, such as metals, wood and plastic.
High levels of recycling will take place, with an emphasis on selling valuable materials. With recyclable materials fetching high selling rates, such as aluminium selling for as much as £800 per tonne, the cost of hiring a skip can be reduced for skips primarily containing these materials.
With prices starting as low as £60 including VAT, these skips will be among the cheapest available in the UK. However, if the incorrect waste is placed into one of these cheap skips, higher rates may be charged.
