London Chimney Liners

Lining a chimney flue is strongly recommended by the GasSafe Register and HETAS for all new gas and solid fuel fireplace installations, especially in the older property. The lining we use is made of stainless steel and is the most common method of repair to a chimney where the original render lining has degraded. It proves safer than standard masonry chimney lining, has greater integrity, is more efficient and helps prevent condensation and damp.

In addition, current regulations state that all chimney flues of 12 metres or more in height must be lined before any new gas or solid fuel appliances are installed.

Grades 316 and 904 chimney lining available
Grade 316 is for all standard gas, oil and solid fuel (logs, coal, anthracite etc) appliances. Grade 904 would generally be installed for slumbering purposes - that is to say, when stoves are left slow-burning coal or anthracite overnight at a low temperature. This creates condensation, especially in the upper regions of the liner. As coal and anthracite have a high acid content, this causes corrosion in the liner and grade 904 is more resistant to this. Gas and well seasoned logs do not have this problem.

• Fireplace openings reinstated - You have a chimney breast, but the fireplace opening is blocked up and plastered - we can put the opening back, including beading to the top and side corners, plastering at the front and rendering inside for an all round clean, minimalist finish.
• Fireplace openings rendered - Rendering is a sand/cement mix which gives a uniform, heat-proof finish to the inside of fireplace openings. This method is much longer lasting than plaster, which soon cracks. It can also be painted afterwards in water-based masonry primer and top coat.
• Fireplace openings blocked and plastered - If you want your fireplace removed and the fireplace opening sealed up, we will take the fireplace out and brick up the opening for you. Then we can either plaster that area alone if the chimney breast is in reasonable condition, or replaster the whole breast.
