About Abbey Damp Proofing
The aim of Abbey Damp Proofing is to provide specialist damp and timber surveys, reports and/or quotes along with information and guidance on how to cure rising damp, beetle infestation (woodworm), dry rot, timber decay and condensation. We carry out timber treatments and damp proofing in Wirral for property owners, landlords, building contractors, property developers, owners of industrial properties and local housing associations.
In addition to undertaking specialist damp-proofing and timber treatments, additionally we offer damp and timber surveys for pre-purchase & re-mortgage requirements when dampness & timber defects have been highlighted in the home-buyers survey report.
Free surveys and plain English reports for damp proofing in Wirral are handled quickly and efficiently. You will find that our care and commitment to you and a solution is apparent from survey right through to completion of works.
Our Treatment Guarantee
We guarantee all work undertaken, and can also provide underwritten guarantees that are related to the house, not the owner. They are automatically transferable upon future sale of the property without any administrative requirement. Dampness in your home may be broken down into three main categories:
Rising Damp is a problem where ground water is drawn upwards through direct contact with brickwork and mortar. Water rises by capillary action where inadequate or damaged damp proof courses are present in the walls throughout the home.
Rising Damp is often a blight which will have an impact external and internal wall structure alike. The source of dampness in this instance comes from where the bricks and mortar of a wall is direct contact with the ground. The dry upper parts of the wall acts like a wick and draws water upwards from the wet lower bricks.
Penetrating Damp Wirral
Penetrating Damp takes place when defective roofing, brickwork, windows, high ground levels etc. allows for water to penetrate to the inside fabric of your house.
Defects to the outside construction of the building works: weak roofing, ingress of water through uncapped chimneys, especially unvented blocked chimney breasts, chipped render & brickwork, clogged or damaged guttering, broken & corroded downpipes, badly fitting or rotten door frames & windows, all of which allows for rain water to penetrate into the fabric of the building.
Indications to search for when attempting to determine if the cause of problems is penetrating damp include: Discolouration of the inner decor with the presence of tide marks, salt deposits. Blown/blistered (hollow sounding) plaster. Wet and/or rotting skirting boards quite often exhibiting corroding nails, similar to floor timbers. Random damp patches to any elevation on the walls and ceilings. Dark mold on inside walls, window frames etc.
Structural Alterations in Wirral
Are you planning to embark on an open-plan home conversion, repurpose an area or develop a serious new look for your home? Structural alterations in Wirral in many cases are required if you intend to significantly modify the look of the interior or the exterior of your property and require professional attention. Drawing on our years of experience in project management, we supply a detailed structural alteration service.
Woodworm Treatments Wirral
Different wood boring insects favor different types of woods, which will help you to discover what kind of woodworm is causing your problems. Some prefer softwoods like pine, spruce and cedar while some like hardwoods such as oak, ash, sweet chestnut and mahogany. No matter the species, all of them will leave a number of signs, if you have an active woodworm infestation.
Our specialist, experienced surveyors will carry out a complete inspection to guage the extent of any problem and the type of woodworm involved. They’ll also determine whether the infestation is active, check for related problems such as wood rot or damp and if any timbers need replacing. Based on this detailed evaluation they can then recommend the appropriate woodworm treatments Wirral.
Dry Rot Treatments Wirral
Dry rot (Serpula lacrymans) is a wood-destroying fungus that is present in most areas of the world. Although it affects woodland timbers, dry rot is better recognised for its ability to destroy timbers in ships and buildings.
All our Dry Rot treatments are completed by qualified professionals and closely watched by a CSRT surveyor to make certain that each treatment step and procedure is carried out thoroughly to provide all our clients with peace of mind.

Just had some damp issues (tanked & re-plastered a wall that had penetrating damp) fixed by Abby Damp Proofing and can’t recommend them highly enough.
All of the people involved in the job were great - even happy to advise on things they weren’t there to do that I could sort out myself!

We contacted Ray @ Abbey on a Saturday and he was out to quote for us on the Monday, and started work on the Tues. Big thanks to Ray, Alan and the lads for their quick turnaround. The group are reliable and turn up on time. Little things like cleaning up after themselves and taking care, also buying my little niece some chocolate, goes a long way. Would definitely recommend. Thanks lads. Can't speak highly enough.

Very happy with the service & work. I had contacted other companies who never got back to me & could not provide me with the written quotations I needed due to moving house. Abbey came out the same day to give me a quote. Special thank you goes to Rich who went above & beyound to complete work within a short period of requesting & going out of his way to provide the quotes/receipts I needed. Thumbs up from me.

Abbey did extensive work on our home recently. Including damp proofing work outside and inside, rebuilding of internal walls, the removal of dry rot, rendering, plastering, installing two new bathrooms, looking at drainage and roofing issues and ensuring our rather serious damp problem was completely eradicated. The finished result is perfect. The guys showed up on time, were very courteous and went above and beyond to ensure a good quality finish. We've had no issues since. The pricing is very reasonable for the effort undertaken. Very highly recommended.

Brilliant work from abbey builders at my mother's house. Got the job done nice and quickly to a very high standard and for a good price. Other builders were delaying and delaying but Dave and his team were fantastic and didn't mess me about. Knocked out a wall in the back of the house, opened it all up, replastered and made good in a couple of days! Excellent company and will definitely use them again, I cannot recommend them highly enough... Cheers lads
