Structural Design
Residential developments and home improvements form a large part of our expertise. If you are planning a structural project, from extending your building to constructing a new one, we have the professional solutions and advice to suit your needs. We offer structural design and calculations for steel, concrete and timber beams, joists and lintels, masonry wall panels, roofs and general overall building stability.

You can then submit these to the local authority under Building Regulations and to the builder. All calculations are in accordance with Eurocodes and British Standards.

Structural Surveys
We provide Structural Surveys to investigate any issues raised in your home buyers report, and advise you on whether the structural issues are historic or ongoing and what remedial works may be necessary to fix these. Our Surveys are suitable for projects of any size, and can be tailored around your concerns and budgets.

Some examples of the Surveys we complete are:

• Addressing issues in a home buyers report
• Specific or general Surveys on any property
• Structural Surveys on specific load-bearing elements* (i.e. roof, walls, floors)

*The final type of inspection listed here is less expensive than a typical full Building Survey as it is limited in its scope. It is suitable for those who are only really concerned with structural defects. For example; homeowners who intend to undertake renovation / modernisation works. It covers the structural aspects of the property in the same detail as the Building Survey above, but does not include any non-structural parts, or outbuildings (unless specifically requested).

Solar Panel Roof Check
We work with local authorities and solar power companies to assess and certify solar arrays when carrying out a solar panel roof check. We assess the structure of farms, schools, factories, workshops and hundreds of domestic residences with the aim of putting sustainable and environmental solutions at the forefront of our design principals.

Structural implications always need to be considered when if you are thinking of fitting solar panels, either PV or thermal, to your property. Solar installers will carry out a survey prior to fitting the panels but the additional loading to the roof structure should be evaluated by a Structural Consultant.

ASA Structural Consultants have inspected multiple types of roofs, and in most cases find that the additional weight of the panels can be safely carried by the roof. In some cases though, strengthening work is necessary prior to installation. We can prepare the necessary calculations in these instances, providing you with the reassurance that the fitting of the panels can proceed without incident.
