Air Tightness Testing (Get your Bespoke Air Test & SAP, EPC Quote today)
L1a and L2a Air Tightness Testing. WM Diagnostics is one of the longest running companies to deliver domestic and commercial air tightness testing within the UK. We offer cost effective bespoke quotes on a per contract basis, we also pride ourselves at being affordable for the Self Build Market.
What is Air Testing?
Air tightness testing is a requirement that was brought into the Part L1a regulations in 2006, we feel it is an important aspect of a development and can save a client thousands in both construction costs and end user heating costs. It is also an important aspect of Passivhaus design.
Uncontrolled air leakage through the fabric of a building creates heat loss, and significantly affects the performance in standard assessment tools like SAP and SBEM.
Why Choose Us For Air Tightness Testing?
A SAP (Standard Assessment Procedure) is a calculation carried out for new builds, Conversions, some extensions and Refurbs. It is a calculation for modelling your design, in correlation to a regional average dwelling and checking compliance with National CO2 targets.
The Calculation is carried out using design drawings, or even planning drawings, which are in accordance with building regulations (Approved Document Part L in England and Wales). To show compliance, the Dwelling Emission Rate must be equal to or better (lower) than the target. Conversions, Extensions and Refurbs do not need to meet this.
Energy Performance Certification
An EPC refers to an Energy Performance Certificate issued by an ‘On Construction Domestic Energy Assessor’ or a ‘Domestic Energy Assessor’, using SAP methodology and accredited software.
Any new dwelling, or dwellings created by conversion or change of use require a SAP Calculation to be carried out to ensure compliance. From this an EPC can be generated and will include information outlining the energy efficiency of that build and possible upgrades.
WM Diagnostics will use plans and drawings, these drawings do not need to be Architectural Drawings but will require to be to scale, together with information regarding the construction, heating and ventilation (and more) of the dwelling(s).
Part F Ventilation Testing
Part F of the Building Regulations requires that all mechanical extract fans in new dwellings must have a flow rate test carried out to ensure that the extractor performs to the requirement. The resultant report is passed to Building Control as part of the sign off procedure. We carry out the test by using an anemometer with a specially fitted bracket to maintain air flow.
Part G Water Calculations
Water calculations and the Code for Sustainable Homes or Building Regulations. The requirement of your Water Calculation will vary depending on what level of CfSH you are working to, of course we can help with a fast, trouble free tailored calculation to ensure a successful result regardless if the calculation is for a New Build, Conversion or Refurb. Most Building Control, private or public, will require a water calculation if you intend on installing larger than usual bathroom systems. Some will require them as standard.
