About Yorkshire Air Testing Ltd

Welcome to Yorkshire Air Testing Ltd – Nationwide Air Tightness Testing Specialists
As from 1st April 2007, any new property is required to successfully complete an air tightness test to satisfy the Part L1A & L2A building requirements for conservation of fuel and power. Yorkshire Air Testing conduct Air pressure tests for both residential and commercial properties to the guidelines set out in the technical standards of L1 and L2 regulations.

Yorkshire Air Testing are fully ATTMA accredited Air Testing specialists. We are an independent company and conduct air tightness testing for both large national building companies and small independent builders.

How is the Air Tightness Test carried out?
Upon your enquiry, a fully qualified ATTMA (Air Tightness Testing Measurement Association) engineer from Yorkshire Air Testing will contact you to discuss the process in detail and arrange a date to visit the site and conduct the test.

Ideally Air Tightness Testing is carried out during the final stages of construction when the structure is completed and utilities such as water and electricity are connected.

SBEM Calculations & Commercial EPCs
Testing Document L2 of the 2006 Building Regulations requires all non-dwellings with a floor area of 500m2 to be tested for air permeability. Upon successful completion of the air testing we will issue the as built SBEM and EPC for your building regulation completion certificate.

Yorkshire Air Testing can carry out your SBEM Calculation on all your new build, converted or extended commercial premises. Once the SBEM Calculation is complete we will provide a report summarizing the results, including photographs, along with your Commercial EPC or Energy Performance Certificate. The EPC demonstrates the energy rating of a building, and as of 2009 is a mandatory requirement whenever commercial premises are sold or rented.

Extract Ventilation Testing
Ventilation Extract Testing or Part F Ventilation testing came into force in October 2010. Part F vent testing requires that air flow rates on all mechanical ventilation systems installed in new properties are tested and meet the requirements of the Part F building regulations.

Why conduct an Extract Ventilation Test
With the requirements set out in the Part L Air Tightness Testing building regulations, new properties are being built increasingly air tight, reducing the amount of uncontrolled air flow. Due to the increase in air tightness, it is essential that the desired air flow within a property is achieved.
Suggested building preparation before a Extract Ventilation Test

To ensure that the property has the best chance of passing the Ventilation Extract Test, we suggest that the following are checked before our engineers arrive on site.
  • All extract fans are fitted and fully functioning.
  • All background ventilators such as trickle vents to be installed and in the open position.
  • All windows and doors are fitted, sealed and in the closed position.
  • All internal doors have sufficient undercut to allow air flow between rooms (10mm over and above the final floor finish).
