About Central Conveyor Belting and Accessories

Welcome to Central Conveyor Belting and Accessories. We exist to supply spare parts for conveyor systems. (primarily belts and rollers, but if you need anything else, just give us a call.).

As a partner organisation to Central Conveyors Ltd, who manufacture conveyor systems, we can usually help with just about anything !

Fabric conveyor belts

PVC Conveyor Belts

The Ford Transits of the conveyor belt world ! These ubiquitous belts are found everywhere where packages need to be moved. Most popular in warehousing applications, but they can crop up anywhere from agriculture to manufacturing plants. If you've ever wandered around a factory and seen green conveyor belts, there is a good chance they where PVC.

At around 2mm thick, the belts are reasonably flexible, and can go around 50mm diameter rollers (or greater). They are tough and durable, though they don't like being continuously saturated in water (who does ? ). They are also somewhat vulnerable to strong UV-light, which will reduce their lifespan somewhat. (so try and keep them away from strong sunlight). They can also be damaged by continuous exposure to vegetable and mineral oils.

PVC conveyor belts come in a variety of surface textures; from smooth to highly-textured (to give greater grip). They can also be provided with flights to assist moving boxes up an incline, and side-walls to contain product on the belt.

We can even profide FDA-approved PVC belts, which can be used in some types of food production. Speaking of which.....

Food-grade conveyor belts

This usually refers to Polyurethane conveyor belts. Much thinner than their PVC brethren, PU belts are rated as "food safe". This arises from the close-pore structure of the PU carrying surface, which resists adherence by bacteria, and makes them extremely easy to keep hygienically clean. If you happen to find yourself wandering through a food manufacturing plant and notice a blue conveyor belt, the chances are that it is PU !

Unless you are wandering through a pharmaceutical plant.. or a "clean room" laboratory. They like them too, and for the same reasons.

They are also beloved of anyone who needs a very small conveyor... or rather.. a conveyor with a very narrow end-roller. (typically for transferring small parts from one conveyor to another, with the minimum of air-gap). Being thinner than PVC, a PU conveyor belt has the property of being able to go around VERY narrow rollers.. down to 10mm or so.

If you want an even narrower roller, then you might have to consider.....

Silicon Conveyor Belts

Silicon is a very strange belt material. It has the properties of being slightly "grippy", which is useful for taking products up a gentle incline without them rolling backwards. However, at the same time - and contradictory - it has excellent "release" properties. E.g. the carried product doesn't stick to the belt when it reaches the end of the conveyor.

These belts are not thinner than PU.. but they can go around a knife-edge, and are probably the most flexible of the conveyor belts. At the same time, they can be stronger than their PU counterparts.

And finally... they can withstand high temperatures. A silicon conveyor belt can withstand 180 degrees centigrade, whereas PVC and PU tends to melt at around 90 degrees.

Of course.. if you want a REALLY high-temperature belt, then you might consider......

PTFE high-temperature conveyor belts

A very thin - and not very strong - belt that is the ultimate in non-stick... because it's made of teflon. At a fraction of a millimeter in thickness, these belts are very flexible, and can go around knife-edges. They are also capable of operating at around 250 degrees centigrade !

As mentioned, they are NOT very strong. Unless... of course.... you combine the PTFE material with Kevlar. Which we frequently do ! At that point, they can approach the longitudonal strength of single-ply PU.

Rollers

Of course, we do many more belts, and many variations. Give our helpful technical staff a call on 01509 816064 to discuss your specific requirements.
