Cousins Building & Roofing Service

Cousins were employed to build a ground floor extension onto my 4 bedroomed house in Chester le Street. There were a number of problems with the build including the removal of a load bearing wall without checking the direction of the joists and then inserting a wooden beam to support the first floor instead of a steel beam. The kitchen floor which Cousins laid was uneven and I had to pay another builder to remove 75% of my newly laid wooden flooring as well as cabinets in my large central kitchen island. A large first floor bedroom window had dropped in one corner by 15mm during the time that Cousins had my rear wall supported by Acros. The roof on the new extension leaked and when my wife and I tried to claim through our home insurance the roof was examined by a roofing specialist from a loss adjusting company. He stated in his report that there was no sign of storm damage and the claim was rejected as he said the leak was due to "VERY POOR WORKMANSHIP". Cousins refused to come out and examine the roof even though I had made the offer on a number of occasions and I am currently in the process of taking Cousins to the County Court in order to recover the cost of the repairs. There are some good builders out there but do your research before you hand over your money.
