About DAT Draughting Services Ltd
DAT Draughting Ltd has become one of the countries leading Design For Manufacture (DFMA) CAD resource. We provide a range of services from complex 3D Building Services coordination (incl. Plantroom design), Modular design and fabrication drawings to simple 2D drawings. Combined we have over 20 years draughting experience and have worked on some of the countries major building projects.
DAT Draughting provide a complete range of professional CAD (Computer Aided Design) services. These can be fully customised to each individual customer’s requirements. Our aim at D.A.T is to find engineering solutions for our clients using a range of CAD products. From the initial planning process, we turn conceptual design ideas into intelligent 3D models.
We liaise with our client throughout the design process working closely to provide the best solutions. At each stage the model can then viewed using the latest ‘Walkthrough’ software, this also automatically checks for any clashes that may have occurred and the problem can be rectified.
DFMA Services
Design for Manufacture is the general engineering practice of designing products in such a way that they are easy to manufacture and install on-site. The concept exists in almost all engineering disciplines, but the implementation differs widely depending on the manufacturing technology. DFMA describes the process of designing or engineering a product in order to facilitate the manufacturing process to reduce its manufacturing costs.
DFMA will allow potential problems to be fixed in the design phase which is the least expensive place to address them. Other factors may affect the manufacturability such as the type of raw material, the form of the raw material, dimensional tolerances, and secondary processing such as finishing. At D.A.T we have a vast knowledge of coordinating services in order for `DFMA’ to be applied.
Types of modules that can be designed by us are endless, some of the most frequent include:
BIM or Building Information Modelling is a process for creating and managing information on a construction project across the project lifecycle. One of the key outputs of this process is the Building Information Model, the digital description of every aspect of the built asset. This model draws on information assembled collaboratively and updated at key stages of a project. Creating a digital Building Information Model enables those who interact with the building to optimize their actions, resulting in a greater whole life value for the asset.
A design using BIM is a combination of many things, these include:
As well as an established Mechanical & Electrical design coordination company D.A.T can also provide a 3D Solid modelling service. This can be used for a vast range of things such as equipment modelling. We can convert a 2D sketch or diagram into a 3D part for use within a coordination project. As we use many pieces of equipment within our work it is important for us to have the exact part drawn to the precise specification in order to produce actuate fabrication drawings.
Many suppliers of equipment only produce 2D drawings instead of comprehensive 3D parts libraries. We can offer companies this service which can be incorporated into their website. Along with 3D Solid modelling we also offer advanced material rendering and animation capabilities so engineers can better visualise their product designs.
- Plan
From the very first step we will help plan your project through to completion and delivery. - Design
We can work with your company to design as little or as much of your project as you require. From pipework to ventilation, from steelwork to fabrication we can use the latest software packages to design and coordinate your project. - Build
We adopt a number of techniques to provide the fabricator with the best level of detail for manufacture. Ranging from fully rendered 3D models to separate spool details to simple isometric fabrication drawings. We also provide the fabricator with a full Bill of Materials using the latest BIM technology.

A design using BIM is a combination of many things, these include:
- Product properties, such as thermal performance
- Information content that defines a product
- Geometry representing the product’s physical characteristics
- Visualisation data giving the object a recognisable appearance
- Functional data, such as detection zones, that enables the object to be positioned and behave in the same manner as the product itself
