We guarantee we will produce a design for any difficult site we may be called upon. The required depth and diameter of the piles is calculated by our structural engineer and are based on the ground conditions and access issues.
RC Slabs
There are several options we can offer when it comes to slab foundations. Where we are using reinforced concrete for construction, we can use slabs as alternative foundation to ground beams and being narrower, they offer a solution where depth might be an issue. Reinforced concrete slabs are used to provide structural floor support to a foundation and may also include reinforced steel mesh for strength. Concrete floor slabs are used to provide flat floors.
The process involves making a concrete base using layers of reinforcement being placed onto the piles and framework of a properties structure. Concrete is then poured onto the slabs and levelled, which provides an even base to build upon. The thick, large concrete slabs are then supported by concrete planks, the ground, load-bearing walls, beams or columns.
Ground Beams
Ground beams provide support to brickwork and blockwork, they are usually constructed in concrete and are a good alternative to traditional trench foundations. The method includes excavation of a shallower trench, inserting choice of shuttering and installation of the beam reinforcement cage, this will then be tied into the pile reinforcement if this is present. The trench will then be poured with concrete. This is an excellent choice of foundation for projects that cannot have traditional trench footings, whether that is due to ground conditions or due to services running through the foundation footprint.
Underpinning
There are several reasons why underpinning might be necessary and therefore different approaches to the methods used. It involves placing a new foundation underneath an existing foundation to give more support or shore up failing foundations.
We encounter this where sinking and subsidence has occurred due to ground movement which can be due to changes in soil conditions or local excavations and the solution demands additional support. Often, we are dealing with restricted access and need to minimise vibrations to ensure we don’t make the situation worse.
