Following the successful fit-out of the Manchester Civil Justice Centre, global construction company Carillion has awarded Mivan the £8 million fit-out of the Rolls Building in London.
This will provide new court facilities for Her Majesty’s Courts Service (HMCS).
Mivan's 12-month contract covers the interior fit-out from the lower Ground Floor to Level 5. Scope of work includes the supply and installation of acoustic partitions and door sets; floor finishes; suspended ceilings; bespoke joinery items to include tea points, wardrobes, shelving; judges’ benches & interview counters and balustrades. The majority of the joinery items will be manufactured off-site in County Antrim. Working from the designs of leading architects Wood Bagot, Mivan will complete the fit-out by October 2010.
Carillion is delivering the main contract for developers Delancey and Invista Real Estate in the 180,000 square feet building. The new Rolls Building will house the work of the Chancery, Commercial and TCC (Technology and Construction Court) jurisdictions of the High Court, which is part of the Royal Courts of Justice providing a world-class facility with state-of-the-art courtrooms and supporting services. The building has also been designed to achieve an excellent BREEAM (environmental) rating.
The new Court will now occupy the lower ground to fifth floors, providing 31 courtrooms, 11 hearing rooms, 54 public consultation rooms and administrative office space. The fifth floor will also house part of the new Upper Tribunal. The Rolls building is located at the northern end of Fetter Lane in the City of London.
