The new facility, which will feature a new detox unit and inpatient facilities that replace the former ones at Mascalls Park, Brentwood, had its official turf cutting ceremony at the end of September. Using a special commemorative spade, NELFT Chair Jane Atkinson and Chief Executive John Brouder cut and turned a section of turf.

Kier London's scheme at Goodmayes Hospital will rationalise some of the services offered by NELFT and provide brand new facilities designed to deliver healthcare in a modern environment. It will provide five wards - male acute, female acute, older adult, detox and low secure - with 91 bedrooms in total. All five wards will be incorporated into one two-storey building along with a central hub to provide a range of shared facilities.
A spokesman for the NELFT commented: "We are really excited that we have got these two new services. It’s a major development for us."
The unit is expected to be completed by November 2010.
