A new CE marked and FSC certified, high strength engineered timber option for loadbearing applications in housing, commercial and industrial constructions is now available in the UK from Steico Limited.
Steicoultralam laminated veneer lumber (LVL) is CE certified to EN 14374 standards and is being distributed across Europe by Steico. The standard includes bending strength, compression strength and bending stiffness, all key indicators for roof beam and support applications. FSC certification is the globally recognized Forest Stewardship Council standard for ecoforestry.
One of the most rigid timber materials available to specifiers and builders, Steicoultralam can be used for high loadbearing applications such as main beams, flush beams, ceiling beams, rim boards, sole plates, top plates or lintels. The material is also highly suitable for door products and other high strength industrial and commercial applications.
Available customised, within the maximum dimensions of 106mm thickness x 1,250mm width x 20,000mm length, Steico also provides a range of standard sizes. Material thicknesses are 27mm, 33mm, 39mm, 45mm, 75mm and 90mm. Component heights of 200 – 400mm are available, and full sheets with a width of 1,250mm are held in stock ex works. Standard lengths are 6,000mm and 12,000mm.
The CE testing process confirmed the high quality achieved in production using a Metriguard sorting line and top-quality raw material from forests close to the manufacturing plant. Vertical bend strength is 48N/mm2. Tensile strength is an equally impressive 38 N/mm2 and the modulus of elasticity has an average of 14,000 N/mm2.
Steico is the exclusive distribution partner for Russian manufacturer, Taleon Terra (formerly MLT). Its spectacular new plant for LVL production is located at Torzhok, close to Moscow and uses ‘state of the art ‘ technology mostly from Germany. The world's longest Dieffenbacher press is the focal point of the plant. Its advanced processing is reflected in excellent surface characteristics, an extremely stable product form and unprecedented precision of the finished product. For example, the thickness tolerance of Steicoultralam of 0.5mm is 50 per cent less than Glulam or C24 solid timber. Precision cutting ensures the raw billets are economically converted into sheets minimizing waste and reducing costs.
Andy Moore, Managing Director of Steico Limited said: "The addition of LVL to our product range is a significant complement to our i-joist and insulation products. It extends the scope of our loadbearing solutions across a wide variety of residential and commercial construction applications."
