Foundation Stone Laid At New Lightmoor School

Construction News Image
A specially-commissioned foundation stone has been laid to mark the construction of a Telford primary school which will serve a new 800 home development.

The £3.5 million school and housing development at Lightmoor Village is the result of a partnership between Telford & Wrekin Council, the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) and the Bournville Village Trust.

It also forms the part of the work of the new Housing and Regeneration Board established between Telford & Wrekin Council and the HCA and is part of the Council’s Borough Towns Initiative.

The 210 pupil school – designed by the Architecture, Landscape and Building Section of Telford & Wrekin Council – will open at the beginning of the academic year in September 2010.

It will have seven class bases, social play areas, a multi use games area and a school hall. There will also be facilities within the school building that benefit the new community at Lightmoor Village.

The foundation stone was commissioned by Telford & Wrekin Council through the contractor Clegg Construction and made by Blockleys. It was laid by representatives of all three members of the joint venture.

Councillor Stephen Burrell, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: "The building of the school marks the culmination of several years of planning and negotiations between the organisations involved.

"The laying of the foundation stone was a symbolic moment for the whole Lightmoor development."
