Permission Issued For Anglia Square

Formal planning permission has been issued for the redevelopment of Anglia Square.

Norwich City Council’s planning committee approved a scheme for a comprehensive regeneration of Anglia Square for mixed use development in December 2008.

However, permission could not be formally issued until legal negotiations around funding for services and infrastructure – Section 106 agreements – had been completed. These agreements ensure the city and county councils and developers will continue working together on regenerating the Anglia Square area despite the current economic downtown.

Now negotiations have been completed and the council has sent out the formal decision notices for the development.

Brian Morrey, City Council Member for Sustainable City Development, said: "I am looking forward to work starting on the redevelopment of Anglia Square, which will revitalise this important area of the city."

The plans include detailed proposals for 198 homes, a food store, car parking, enhanced pedestrian, cycle and public transport accessibility, bridge link from St. Crispins and a new link road between Edward Street and Pitt Street – part of the planned gyratory system for the northern city centre.

The council has been working with Norfolk County Council, which is to provide the link road and is also looking at traffic flow around the area, and with the Greater Norwich Development Partnership, which has sourced funding for the regeneration of the area.
