Planning Services Smashes Targets

The planning services team at Norwich City Council has exceeded challenging targets for their speed at determining applications.

Norwich City Council's executive committee is being asked to note performance management information for the second quarter of the financial year 2009-10 at its meeting on 25 November.

And the information shows the council's planning services team is above government targets and has also exceeded the council's own higher targets for determining major and minor applications.

Cllr Brian Morrey, Executive Member for Sustainable City Development, said: "I would like to congratulate everyone involved for all their hard work in making this happen. “Planning is a vital service in a rapidly growing historic city like Norwich, and we are well on the road to a three-star service."

The performance figures for the second quarter of this financial year show 90% of major planning applications being determined within the target of 13 weeks, with 84% of minor applications and 90% of other applications being determined within eight weeks.

The council also has a success rate of 77% in planning appeals, with just three appeals out of 13 upheld in the last quarter.
