Zero Carbon Homes Proposals Due
Revised proposals which will transform part of Peterborough's South Bank with zero carbon homes are to be unveiled today at the executive suite at Peterborough United Football Ground.
The pPod Consortium – a partnership comprising Morris Homes and Gentoo Group and Browne Smith Baker architects – will be in Peterborough to discuss its plans for the 17-acre (seven hectare) site with the local community and stakeholders.
The site will become England's largest development of zero carbon homes – the second to be created as part of The Carbon Challenge, a Communities and Local Government initiative to accelerate the house building industry's response to climate change. The programme is being delivered by the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), the national housing and regeneration agency.
The pPod Consortium was named preferred developer of Peterborough South Bank Phase One following a national competition to turn the site, which lies adjacent to Peterborough United Football Club, into a development of 363 new high-quality and environmentally-friendly homes.
The development will be built to Level 6 of the Code for Sustainable Homes and 35% of the homes will be allocated to part-ownership, affordable rent, and market or social rent options. There will also be open spaces and areas which could be used by shops and the community.
Martin Edmunds, from lead developer Morris Homes, said: "The past 12 months has been an incredibly busy period, with our initial proposals subject to intense scrutiny and refinement.
"We are in the enviable position of being able to create something truly visionary and we believe what we have now fulfils that brief.
"The feedback and comment from our first consultation was very useful and we would urge people to come along, see how the proposals have changed, ask us any questions and tell us what they think."
The site was the former headquarters of Elliott Group and is jointly owned by the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), the East of England Development Agency (EEDA) and Peterborough City Council.
