Deputy First Minister Welcomes New Green Jobs Boost To Monmouthshire

The Deputy First Minister, Ieuan Wyn Jones has welcomed the news of the new £38 million investment by Mabey Bridge in South Wales.

The Chepstow-based engineering firm are investing in a new facility which will mean they become the biggest UK manufacturer of wind turbine towers, both for onshore and offshore applications.

The move will see Mabey Bridge create 240 new skilled jobs in the region in addition to the 400 already employed by the company in Chepstow and Lydney.

Deputy First Minister said: "Green jobs just like these will be central to the future of the Welsh economy. These are highly skilled jobs that will provide a boost to the local economy while showing once again that manufacturing is still central to Wales.

"This strategy will be an important component in stimulating the recovery from recession – as well as strengthening our commitment to combat the causes and impacts of climate change. Our aim is to support businesses in Wales in the transition to a more sustainable economy and to capture the potential opportunities in new technology and innovation."

The turbine tower manufacturing facility will be in addition to Mabey Bridge's other local facilities at Chepstow and Lydney in Gloucestershire.
