Gatwick's Construction Partners Praised For Site Safety

London Gatwick Airport's two main construction partners, Taylor Woodrow and Costain, have been highly praised by the Considerate Constructors Scheme, following a recent audit.

Started in 1997, the scheme was established by members of the industry to improve the image of construction. Membership of the scheme is voluntary and all participating companies sign up to a code of practice which includes being considerate on site and a good neighbour.


Other measures include how contractors manage their environmental impact, safety, site cleanliness and on-site facilities for construction workers.

The scheme's auditors rated Taylor Woodrow, responsible for the upgrade to the airport's inter-terminal transit system as well as the refurbishment of floors and ceilings in the departure lounge, South Terminal, as operating an "exceptionally good site". They were also recognised for their work on the new baggage system at South Terminal.

Costain was praised for their work in redeveloping the forecourt interchange at North Terminal, and was awarded "very good" site status.

Both companies were also recognised for the way they work in partnership with their stakeholders including London Gatwick, its airlines and handling agents.
