May Gurney Awarded Over £130m Contract For Torbay Council
May Gurney has announced that it has been selected as preferred bidder to deliver a range of integrated front-line services for Torbay Council.
The contract, valued at up to £130 million over an initial period of 10 years with possible extensions of a further 15 years, will be delivered through a new Joint Venture Company (JVC) between Torbay Council and May Gurney.
The aim is that the JVC will begin mobilisation in April with services commencing in July.
The JVC will deliver a wide range of essential front-line services to the residents of Torbay including waste and recycling collections; the maintenance of highways, grounds, parks, car parks, buildings and the Council's vehicle fleet; street and beach cleansing; and out of hours call centre support.
May Gurney will hold an 80% share of the JVC, which will also independently source new business clients in the region, reflecting the aims of the Government's Total Place initiative.
The delivery of bundled services through a single private partner in joint venture with a local authority is a truly innovative solution designed to drive service improvements and value for residents - doing more for less.
Philip Fellowes-Prynne, Chief Executive of May Gurney, said: "We are delighted to have been selected by Torbay Council for this ground-breaking JVC and we're very much looking forward to working together to deliver better services across the region.
"May Gurney is an expert at developing deep long-term relationships with its clients where real collaboration is crucial - especially to design and deliver such a wide range of front-line services, which are essential to local communities.
"This core expertise will be crucial to the success of our innovative new partnership with Torbay."
