New Learning Difficulties Home Handed Over To Council
Property developer Earlplace has handed over a new home for adults with learning difficulties to Bristol City Council.
Completion of the construction is part of a much larger re-development made possible by collaboration between Earlplace and the city council.
"The completion of the first phase of the development is a triumph for public private partnerships'," said Councillor Bev Knott, Cabinet Member for Care and Neighbourhoods.
''It is also the culmination of several years hard work by many officers of the council, not just in the adult care sector but also the legal, property and planning teams.
"The new Concord Lodge will provide a safe environment for people with complex learning difficulties, giving them the support they need to develop their skills and prepare for a more independent and rewarding life.
"Thanks to the partnership between the council and Earlplace, the new facility has cost local taxpayers nothing and the development has transformed a site which had been an eyesore into a well-designed local resource."
Tim Malby, Managing Director of Earlplace, said: "I am extremely proud to have worked so closely with officers of the council to bring about the delivery of the new building for use by those in Bristol's community with complex learning difficulties and look forward now to finishing the building of the adjacent 76-room care home.
"Construction of that is now well under way and we are hopeful of incorporating a roof garden for the residents."
