New developments at the Church Village Bypass in Wales were witnessed by visitors and residents when the first of three large footbridges arrived in the county borough for installation on the £90 million highways scheme.
The large steel footbridge, which arrived in two pieces and measured 54 metres in length, was transported from Kent by Nusteel Structures Ltd.
It was also partially installed by Rhondda Cynon Taf Council's contractor Costain and spans the new Bypass at the Efail Isaf link road near Heol Dowlais. The two remaining footbridges for Nant Celyn and Tonteg will arrive later in April.
Rhondda Cynon Taf Council's Cabinet Member for Transport and Customer Care Cllr Andrew Morgan said: "The arrival of the first of three footbridges once again illustrates the rapid progress being made on the Church Village Bypass scheme which is well on course for completion in the Autumn of this year.
"This is an incredibly exciting period as the development of the Bypass becomes more and more visible to all those residents and visitors who will benefit from this significant new artery from Talbot Green to Pontypridd."
Dan Powrie, Construction Manager for Costain added: "The key milestone events associated with the construction of the bypass are coming thick and fast and again the arrival of the first bridge signifies continued progress towards the target opening date in the early Autumn."
