Plans For Community College Unveiled

Oakfield Community College in Middlesbrough is the brand new school which will replace Hall Garth Community Arts College and King's Manor School in Hall Drive, Acklam.

The new school will open across the two sites in September with a brand new school building opening in 2012.

It is being built as part of Middlesbrough Council’s £100m Building Schools for the Future programme.

The new building has been designed to accommodate 1,350 pupils aged 11-16.

The building will include new teaching accommodation, a performance hall, sports hall and large central atrium.

The grounds will have new landscaping, play areas and a dedicated cycle route and pedestrian footpaths.

The designs also include a proposed multi-use games area with flood lighting and playing fields in the position of the existing school buildings.

Planning for the new school started back in 2006 with consultation exercises held with the public, pupils and staff.

Councillor Mike Carr, Executive Member for Children, Families and Learning, said: "We are extremely excited about the plans for Oakfields Community College.

"This building and its surroundings will provide a wonderful learning environment for the children of Middlesbrough.

"I hope people come to the public exhibition and see the plans for themselves. Their opinions on the design are very welcome."
