New Primary School For London Borough Of Barnet
Kier London has started work on a new £12.1 million primary school in Colindale for London Borough of Barnet.
School staff, the children and governors joined Kier London construction director Indi Muttucumaru and site staff for a turf cutting ceremony to mark the start of the project.
The project comprises a two-storey building with infant & junior classrooms, offices & administration rooms, a hall and a swimming pool for both school and community use, as well as the Acorn Centre to assess children's special educational needs. On completion of the new school building, which is being constructed on the playing field, the children will vacate the old building so that it can be demolished in order to make way for the new sports pitches and remaining landscaping. The project is scheduled for completion December 2011.
The school is keen to have a proactive involvement in the project with members of the site team attending assemblies and conducting site visits for the children in order to keep the school up to date with the ongoing work. It is hoped that there will be many opportunities for supplementary learning throughout the duration of the build.
