As the World Cup kicks off, HSS Hire, the UK's award-winning tool and equipment hire company, has teamed up with the world's oldest football club, Sheffield FC, to collect used football boots for children in Africa.
As a key sponsor of the 'Boots for Africa' campaign, HSS will be acting as a drop-off point for used and second-hand football boots that will then be delivered to various children’s projects in Africa.
Chief Operational Officer at HSS, David Downie, explained: "We wanted to get into the spirit of the World Cup but we wanted to do something that was really about football, not just promotional merchandise, and something that gave back as well. We’re delighted to be part of the Boots for Africa programme, promoting grass-roots football in the host nation and giving kids there the chance to play football in a proper pair of boots rather than barefoot.
"As someone who was lucky enough to play a lot of football as a young man, it’s great to be able to donate some of my old boots and those of my kids to a nation that deserves all the support we can give."
Richard Tims, Chairman of Sheffield FC, added: "Football helps to build communities, develop social understanding and improve the lives of millions of people around the planet - the 'Boots for Africa' appeal builds on this by helping to develop the skills and fitness of aspiring disadvantaged children and leaving a great legacy once the World Cup has been and gone. Teaming up with HSS offers a fantastic opportunity to collect a huge number of boots and make a real difference."
HSS Hire has over 250 locations nationwide and all HSS branches will be collecting boots.
