A Liverpool-based community farm, soon to be powered by wind energy, is being given the chance to showcase its successes to HRH Prince of Wales at a civic dinner on September 8.
A team of four from Randle's Bridge Farm at Croxteth will be talking to the Prince about their forthcoming plans to install a wind turbine to power the farm. They will be among 400 guests to meet HRH in person at the Business in the Community dinner at The Monastery, Manchester..
Chief Officer of Neighbourhood Services Company (NSC) that runs the farm, Phil Knibb, said: "We are really proud of our achievements and are delighted to have the chance to talk to Prince Charles, not only about our successes to date but more importantly our plans for the future, including the installation of a wind turbine."
The turbine, which will be installed this autumn, has been funded by Liverpool City Council and Foundation, a climate fund for the Northwest. It should generate around 27 per cent of the farm's overall energy needs (between 12,000 and 20,000 kwh per year), saving approximately five tonnes of CO2 per year or 100 tonnes in its lifetime.
Liverpool City Council's Cabinet Member for the Environment, Councillor Tim Moore, said: "We want to encourage everyone to become as sustainable as possible and I'm delighted we can help Randle's Bridge Farm to achieve their green dream.
"It is fantastic the group will be able to promote their environmental awareness to Prince Charles and I hope it encourages other community groups and organisations to follow their example and make the most of renewable energy."
