Residents Celebrate At Twycross Zoo

Residents of seven housing associations have been celebrating after passing a tenant inspector course recently and to say well done, a presentation ceremony was held at Twycross Zoo.

The residents attending were all from Midlands-based housing associations which included Derwent Living, Amber Valley Housing, Daventry & District Housing, East Midlands Housing Group, Gedling Homes, Friendship Care and Housing and Three Valleys Housing.

Throughout the qualification, which is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH), residents from the different housing providers had shared their experiences and knowledge with each other, comparing performance and looking at different aspects of their landlord’s service provision.

The CIH course was delivered by Just Housing and aims to give residents the tools to assist them in the inspection of their landlord’s services. This aligns with the Tenant Services Authority’s (TSA) new regulatory framework which was launched in April this year.

Guest speaker Andrew Jones from Just Housing said: “I’m honoured to be celebrating with all the residents from the different housing associations. We’re delighted that so many of them recognised how fantastic the CIH tenant inspector course is.

“The idea is to give the residents the skills to help ensure organisations are delivering the best possible results. They should feel really proud of gaining this qualification.”

Managers and executives from all the organisations were at Twycross Zoo to celebrate with the newly qualified inspectors.

Derwent Living resident Sam Serpanchy added: “I think this is a great programme which aims to put the residents at the heart of the organisation. With the support of my landlord, I feel I am making a difference to the community.

“It was great to go to Twycross Zoo and meet the other residents that have passed the CIH course. We all shared our experiences and had a chat about what we could do going forward and how we can make a positive impact."
