More Than 1,000 People Will Benefit From Affordable Homes In Norfolk

Families and individuals on the housing needs list in Norfolk are set to benefit from £9.6 million investment for affordable homes across the County by the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA).

The cash will help house approximately 1,000 on the housing needs list.

The HCA has worked with a variety of Local Authorities and their Registered Providers of affordable housing to help deliver new homes across the county of Norfolk and all bids were assessed for quality, strategic fit, value for money and deliverability.

£1.4 million of the pot has been allocated to Freebridge Community Housing, the largest provider of affordable homes in West Norfolk. Freebridge is also contributing around fifty per cent of the costs to these schemes and will start work on 32 new homes in King’s Lynn and Walpole St Andrew. These homes will range from 2 to 5 bedroom and be built to Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3.

The Freebridge homes will include 19 properties on the former Kia Garage Site on Wisbech Road in King's Lynn, 12 flats and houses on the site of a former pub on Fernlea Road in Fairstead, King's Lynn and one further property is set to be built in Walpole St Andrew.

Mike Goulding, Area Manager for the HCA in Norfolk said: "This is positive news for partners across Norfolk. The £9.6m will enable nearly 300 new homes to be built, half of which are in rural areas. We are in uncertain times with a recovering economy and housebuilding industry, and limited Government funding. However, we will continue to support partners the best we can to bring together local investment, and maximise impact and value for money, ultimately delivering more homes. It's important that we secure the best possible value for public funds, more so now that ever before."
