Work Begins On Academy's New Building

Kier Eastern started work on City Academy Norwich's new £21 million building yesterday. The building is due to be completed in a little over 18 months’ time, ready to open in September 2012.
The momentous day in the short history of the Academy was marked with a sod cutting ceremony attended by the Academy's sponsors, governors, Kier Eastern, students and other invited guests.
The sponsors' vision for the crescent-shaped building is to provide an inspirational and flexible learning environment for the 21st century, which will incorporate the latest digital technology, be built to the highest environmental standards and will act as a resource for the local community.
The start of work on the transformational building follows an impressive first year and a half for City Academy Norwich, during which time there has been a significant improvement in student attainment. The new building will help to further drive improvement and raise aspirations.
City College Norwich principal, Dick Palmer, commented: "The Academy sponsors have formed an excellent partnership, together with Kier Eastern, to get us to this exciting point. The start of this building work is a key milestone in making a reality of the inspirational vision for students and the Earlham community that we have set out for City Academy Norwich."
