Kier Marriott Appointed For Criminal Justice Centre

Construction News Image
Northamptonshire Police Authority and Northamptonshire Police have announced the appointment of Kier Marriott to build the new Criminal Justice Centre (CJC) at Pavilion Drive, Northampton Business Park.

Planning consent for the CJC was granted by the West Northamptonshire Development Corporation (WNDC) in November 2009. The new centre will provide upgraded custody facilities for Northampton, Daventry and South Northamptonshire, as well additional office space.

Kier Marriott has over 120 years' construction experience and has completed 57 projects in Northamptonshire in the past ten years, with a value of more than £150m. Its appointment to build the new CJC follows a rigorous European tender process, ensuring that costs remain competitive and in line with the current market place. Work will start this spring and it is expected that the centre will be completed by mid 2012.

Northamptonshire Police Authority Chair, Deirdre Newham, commented: "Kier Marriott's innovative engineering skills and competitive presence in the market place have helped achieve a £1m capital saving against the budget for the construction of the CJC. Although a significant capital investment at a time when difficult financial decisions are being made, the Police Authority and the Force's Chief Officers believe that a custody provision that includes the new CJC provides the best value for money for the future of the Force and policing in Northamptonshire."

Kier Marriott Managing Director John Henke added: "As one of Northamptonshire’s leading contractors, we are delighted to have been awarded this exciting contract. We intend to create a modern Criminal Justice Centre that is cost effective without compromising quality. As many of our subcontractors are based in the region, much of the money will be reinvested back into the local economy."
