Post-Christmas Divorce Surge Boosts Business For Building Surveyor Leeds

A surge in post-Christmas divorces has seen a boost in business for a local building surveyor Leeds who deals with matrimonial disputes.

David Moor, based in Yorkshire, has been called on to survey a number of properties in the first quarter of 2011, and this rise looks set to continue. A recent survey found that 1 in 5 couples felt they were on 'shaky ground' after Christmas, with partners believing their relationship 'could end in a separation'.

Solicitors across the country say that the festive period has seen a 'roaring trade in separations'.

Good news for building surveyors

This surge in divorce has resulted in a boost in business for building surveyors who deal with property contention in matrimonial disputes.

Building surveyors are often recruited to conduct property valuations for couples who have decided to go their separate ways.

Property can be a huge bone of contention in many divorces, especially when it is owned by both parties involved. Even if the couple aren't yet at loggerheads, it is still necessary for the property to be professionally valued so that it can be evenly split.

A building surveyor is needed to give an up-to-date valuation of the couple’s property. The couple (or judge) can then arrive at a fair decision as to how the property is to be split.

Why Christmas can mean divorce

Christmas can spell the end for those going through difficult stages in their relationships. There are so many opportunities for things to go badly: from office party flings to rows with the in-laws.

Couples are quicker to throw in the towel on a bad marriage now than ever before. The divorce rate in the United Kingdom is amongst the highest in the world, with 12 in every 1000 marriages ending in a split.

It seems that while the pre-Christmas frenzy is to find the right gifts, the post-Christmas one is to find a good divorce lawyer and a good building surveyor.

Recent economic times have been difficult for those involved in the construction trade, but any building surveyor Leeds who deals with matrimonial disputes has found a sudden rush of work in the post-Christmas period.
