Network VEKA Calls For 'Double Green Deal' Window Clawback For Homeowners

Network VEKA is stepping up the industry's plea for a Government green window subsidy by proposing a double initiative that promotes recycled PVC-U as well as energy efficiency.

The move follows calls by many in the industry for windows to be included in schemes such as the new Green Deal on energy-saving homes.

Network VEKA MD John Ogilvie said: "Each initiative so far has brought subsidies for just about every other part of the house to have energy implications yet the windows are among the easiest ways to cut a home's carbon footprint.

"We fully support all those who are already lobbying the Government for energy-efficient window subsidy but so far their pleas have come to nothing. At the same time, we urgently need to promote recycled product to the consumer, so it would make perfect sense for the Government to marry the two environmental factors in a single scheme and offer incentives to homeowners choosing both."

Recently, Paul Godwin of GlassTalk wrote to Energy Secretary Chris Huhne inviting him to the next event to explain his department’s policy. John Ogilvie has now written to Huhne in support of Paul but also asking him to consider an incentive for homeowners choosing energy efficient and recycled windows.
