An Apex Heritage Cast Iron Rainwater System from Alumasc has been used to re-create a 1920’s period appearance at Imperial War Museum London.
During the refurbishment of the iconic main museum building, Alumasc's Apex Cast Iron downpipes and hopper heads were specified for their compliance with English Heritage Guidelines and for the design versatility they present.
Apex cast iron systems are available from stock or can be made-to-order to match existing installations or create new designs. At Imperial War Museum London, a made-to-order range was fabricated by Alumasc to replicate the original system, including bespoke date-embossed hoppers to match the existing units. Throughout the project Alumasc worked with the installer, Salmon Plumbing, and architects Faithful and Gould on the design solution and flow calculations for the project.
The Apex Heritage Cast Iron product range comprises traditional gutter profiles, round and square pipes, and all associated fittings and accessories. It is produced using an authentic sand casting method that combines traditional manufacture with modern quality control and standards. Cast iron gutters and downpipes are extremely strong, durable and vandal resistant, with minimal maintenance requirements and a life expectancy in excess of 40 years. Apex systems are supplied factory primed or in a three-coat satin black pre-finish and fully comply with BS 460: 2002 Cast Iron Rainwater Goods.
Aqualine Aluminium guttering was also specified for an additional roof area that did not require replication of the existing system. Aqualine is suitable for both refurbishment and new build projects, offering concealed site fixing and jointing for a clean external appearance and high flow capacity for enhanced performance.
In accordance with Alumasc's commitment to sustainable building products and practices, Cast Iron and Aluminium are 100% recyclable.
