P Elliott Olympic Workers Should Be Full Paid - UCATT
Construction union UCATT are seeking assurances that 250 workers who were working for P Elliott's on the Olympic Village, will be fully paid.
P Elliott's were forced into administration earlier this week due to longstanding financial problems. This resulted in the company's plot on the Olympic Village being locked on Thursday and the workers being sent home.
UCATT have contacted both the principal contractors Lend Lease, the Olympic Delivery Authority and CLM (the delivery partner) in order to try resolve the issue and to ensure that the workers are fully paid and are able to return to work at the earliest opportunity.
Jerry Swain, Regional Secretary of UCATT's London and South East Region, said: "It is important that the parties involved move swiftly to guarantee that the workers will be fully paid and are able to quickly return to work. The workers should not suffer a financial penalty as a result of problems which are not of their own making."
An ODA spokesperson said: "Discussions are continuing with P Elliott's receivers to allow work on this specific Village plot to resume as soon as possible. Subject to the ongoing discussions, it has always been our intention to retain the current P Elliott workforce allowing them to continue work on site under our development manager Lend Lease – as soon as this becomes possible, Lend Lease and the ODA would also look also to address any existing pay issues. This issue relates to only one of the 11 residential plots in the Village - construction work across the wider Village site remains unaffected and firmly on track."
