Breathing Buildings Wins Top Award
Breathing Buildings have won the British Private Equity and Venture Capital Associations (BVCA) Portfolio Award for ‘Environmental, Social and Governance Management Team of the Year’, Midlands Region.
The award, which will be presented at a black tie ceremony in London on 30 June 2011, recognises the positive impact private equity and venture capital-backed companies have on the British and global economies and celebrate the achievements of the management teams that create, nurture and lead them.
As regional winners, Breathing Buildings will be put forward for a national award, the winner of which will be announced at the June ceremony.
Over the last 18 months Dr Shaun Fitzgerald, Co-Founder and MD, along with David Wilkinson, Finance and Operations Director, have developed Breathing Buildings from a four person academic focused operation, to a strong team of 25 experts delivering a standardised, industry leading product.
A spinout from a major Cambridge University research programme, Breathing Buildings specialises in natural ventilation design and consultancy, using its patented technology that lowers energy bills, manages CO2 levels and helps minimise a structure’s carbon footprint. Impressively, in the last year they have carried out projects with a number of leading retailers, including Asda, M&S and Tesco and established partnerships with Mitsubishi and Nuaire.
Shaun Fitzgerald said: “The backing we received from MMC Ventures in 2009 was crucial in helping us to get where we are today. Our team consists of business experts and pioneers in natural ventilation and their drive to fulfil our initial vision has enabled us to become an established organisation in the industry with high expectations and amazing prospects for growth. We’re delighted to have won this award which recognises the hard work the team has put in to the business.”
